Finding Your Fridge or Freezer Model Number

Knowing where to find your fridge freezer model number will come in handy when you are trying to diagnose faults or replace a part in your appliance. Your model number is also important for safety reasons. Manufacturers sometimes recall appliances due to safety concerns. When they do this, they will release a series of model numbers so you can check if yours has been recalled. Whether you have a side-by-side fridge freezer, a freezer on top, a freezer below, French doors or a mini compact fridge freezer, the model number is usually found in the same places. Your fridge freezer number will be located on a rating plate or a sticker that contains information about your appliance.

The most common place to find your model number inside a fridge freezer is on the panels behind, on the side of or underneath the salad drawer. Remove the salad drawer and see if you can find it in any of these places.

If it isn't near the salad drawer, take a look at the inside walls of the fridge freezer.

If you've had no luck finding it, check the base of the appliance as well as the sides and back.

If your model number is tucked away, you can take a photo of it with the flash on your phone or shine a torch on it to get the information you need so you don't have to pull the appliance out. If you do need to move your appliance, try using some appliance rollers to help you.

When you have located the model number, you'll then need to know what to look for. The format of the model number and the product or serial number varies depending on the manufacturer of the appliance. The model number will typically be a combination of letters and numbers and also contain special characters such as a dash or a slash. The model number will often be indicated with "Model" or "Mod" at front of it.

For Samsung fridge freezers, the majority of the model numbers start with RS or RA followed by a sequence of numbers. You will also need to take note of the serial number too.

For AEG, Electrolux, Zanussi, Tricity Bendix, John Lewis and Frigidaire fridge freezers, you will need to take note of the model number as well as the specific product number which is usually 11 digits long, starts with a '9' and before the last 2 digits, there is either a space or a slash.

If you have a Hoover, Candy, Baumatic or Haier model, then you're looking for the model number and also the serial number which is usually 16 digits long and starts with a '3'.

If you have a Whirlpool, Ignis, Bauknecht, KitchenAid, Maytag, Proline, Hotpoint, Indesit or Amana fridge freezer, then you're looking for a model number and also a service number which is usually 12 digits long and starts with '85'.
