How to Replace a Dyson Switch and Actuator - DC07

Having a faulty switch or on/off button can stop your vacuum cleaner from doing the most basic function, turning on and off when you want it to. There’s no need to call the professionals or buy an expensive new appliance. Our how-to article will show you how easy it is to replace it yourself.

On this DC07 model you can see the start button won’t even push down. This can happen because of two reasons: a faulty push button or the electric switch that sits underneath. It’s usually the switch that’s broken in most situations..

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

  What You Will Need:

  Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

Step 2 - Detach the Cyclone Assembly

Take off the dust container and pop it over to one side.

Step 3 - Remove the Switch Housing And Switch

Remove the single screw using your torx kit and detach the switch housing, (it can be a little stiff). You should now see the switch inside. On this model the top of the switch has sheared off and is missing, so it will need replacing. Carefully pull the switch out of its electrical connections.

Step 4 - Fit the New Switch And Housing

Fix the new switch exactly the same way as the old one, (just make sure it’s positioned the right way around). Once the switch is wired up, slide it back into position. Just for good measure we are going to replace the switch cover too.

Once it’s clicked into place, check the button is working by pushing it down and you can then tighten the torx screw to secure the switch housing.

Step 5 - Fit the Dust Canister Back into the Vacuum

And finally all that's left is to fit the dust canister back into place.

You’ve now replaced the start button and electrical switch for your Dyson vacuum cleaner. We hope by following our step by step guide the process was simple and not as daunting as you once thought.

If you need to locate the correct start switch or on/off button for your vacuum cleaner, we’re sure to have the correct replacement for you.
