How to Replace a Vax Switch

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical Vax machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

• Vacuum Switch
• Screwdriver

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

In this demonstration video we will be replacing the green carpet wash switch, but you can follow the same procedure for the red on/off power switch if that's defective.

To remove the handle you’ll need to unscrew the two screws using a screwdriver. One is found at the top of the handle, hidden underneath a data label and the other one on the side. You should now be able to slide off the handle cover and back exposing the problem switch.

As you can see the data label has already been removed on this model, as we’ve previously repaired this vacuum cleaner.

Please Note: removing the data label will invalidate your warranty. We recommend taking a picture or writing down any model/serial number information as you will need it whilst ordering parts in the future.

To get the old switch out carefully pull on the switch with your finger and wedge a flathead screwdriver at the bottom of the switch. Push on the sides using your screwdriver and softly twist the switch to release it out.

Before disconnecting the electrical wires take a picture as a reference so you can rewire the new switch as per the old one. Make sure you focus your camera on the electrical terminals as they are individually numbered. 

You can now undo the spade clips on the faulty switch and rewire your new switch using the picture before as a reference.

The final step is to put the handle covers back into position and screw them into place.
