Why is There No light in my Fridge?

Have you have snuck to your fridge in the middle of the night only to find the insides are not illuminated by light? If this has happened to you, you may find you’ll be fumbling about trying to find that perfect midnight snack.

Here at eSpares, we have identified the common cause which could leave your fridge in the dark ages. By following our advice below, we hope you can restore your fridge allowing you to continue to enjoy those cheeky midnight treats.

Light Bulb

When the light in your fridge freezer is no longer working, you first need to identify why the light is not shining. The most common result of your fridge having no light could be a faulty or damaged bulb; like any bulb, these will die over time which of course requires a replacement.

To inspect the bulb you will need to remove the lamp from the fridge, below are some simple steps which can help you diagnose if your bulb is faulty and requires replacing.

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

  • Locate where the bulb fits in the fridge, each brand and model may differ therefore please refer to your instruction manual.
  • Once located you will need to remove the bulb casing, this usually has a screw that holds it in place.
  • Once the light diffuser has been removed unscrew the bulb from its socket.
  • If the bulb has blown there may be a dark area or discoloration.
  • A little shake can help identify if the filament is loose or damaged, if you hear a rattling noise then the bulb’s insides are damaged.

If following the steps has confirmed the fault is because of the bulb then you can replace the damaged lamp with a replacement from our extensive range of fridge freezer spares.

Bulb Holder

Arguably, the fridge freezer can be one of the hardest appliances to work with if not maintained correctly. In this day and age living without a fridge freezer will be next to impossible, unable to store your frozen treats, vegetables, meat and milk.

When the light’s not radiant in our fridges, we tend to jump to think it’s a blown bulb but that's not always the case. The culprit may turn out to be the bulb holder itself, as this is the unit connecting the bulb.

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

  • Gain access to the bulb holder, which is usually held in a unit that can be removed to gain access to the bulb holder.
  • Check the holder and wiring for any signs of damage and burn marks.

For a replacement bulb holder, take a look through our extensive range of fridge freezer lamp holders, so that your fridge can glow from the inside again.
