the programme control dial is a bit hit and miss,sometimes works first time and other times you have to fiddle with it.It appears to be quite slack when turning the programme knob.Can you advise.

The pressure switch only detects the water level in the machine. If the timer selector appear loose you may need to examine that part to identify the problem.
